Description of Project Construction

For the creation of this story, I began the process of writing by using “botnik.org/ voicebox”, I was trying to find themes of inspiration to help aid with starting the project. I started to create interesting titles such as Attack of the Chicken Wings, Flight of a Moth, Lie to My Face, Dreams in between the Earth and the pavement, and many more. Then with these brainstormed topics, I turned to Oblique Strategies, where I drew inspiration for my story and the overall writing process with the three cards: “repetition as a form of change”, “take a break”, and “put in earplugs”. I used “repetition as a form of change” to make sure I would be using some form of repetition in my story, but I wanted it to be changing even though it is repeating. I also wanted to have repetitive/ consistent transitions from each of the Html pages, using the same consistent evolutions. Next, with “take a break”, I took made sure to break from writing both the code and the overall story. This helped with the idea generation and the overall flow of the process. Lastly, for the oblique strategy card, “put in earplugs”, I physically put them into my ears and noticed the silence provided and how a loss of one sense affects my thoughts. I, therefore, wanted to incorporate often the feeling of limited senses or the character’s body control throughout the story. I began writing the story with these in mind and decided to somehow aim to align with the title generation of Dreams in between the Earth and the Pavement.

I began the actual process of writing by writing down interesting terms and words that came to mind which, I placed in the Anagram generator. Using a variety of words including enigma and duality and the overall aspects of how Html and CSS function, I knew that I wanted to be going “in between” either two states of mind, or actual places. How could a storm connect to an internal brainstorm? This was one of the questions I asked myself, along with how can I be in two places at the same time? I decided that each page of Html would serve as a transition among these places and help provide separation and clarity.

The actual web story has a homepage that includes a short summary or teaser of the story, the story themes, and two links: one link to the first page of the story and the second to the page where this text is currently located (the Description of the Project Construction). To begin the story, you click on the link “Begin Story” which takes the reader, as mentioned, to the first page of the actual story. The story pages are numbered 1-10 + “end” to help with the order of the story with the additional two pages that are exploratory pages that provide the reader with more context.

For the bulk of the writing, I used oral transcription, to help get my thoughts down on the page before pulling them into charNG and n+7 where I was able to reread my story segments with a different light and new opportunities. CharNG provided inspiration for the character names and origins along with the number of characters and how five people should be specifically mentioned. It was always entertaining and exciting to see how each of the pieces evolved.

Overall, throughout the story, the main character, whose identity is unknown faces being pulled in opposite directions and facing the stressors of life. She longs for adventure but also wants to be at peace with herself and her life. Embarking on a journey between planes of existence, she is able to make friends and explore the beauty of the world.
